Hot Water Boiler Not Firing Up

Over the Christmas period we had an inconsistent issue with our boiler not firing up for the hot water when the hot tap l/shower was turned on. As the house was quite warm, if the temperature at the thermostat was reasonably above the required temperature on the Hive nothing happened if I turned up the required temperature on the App to well

An indirect-fired water heater is a more efficient way to use a home heating boiler to make domestic hot water. Why? Because the heating boiler will run less often, and when it does run, it will have a longer "on" cycle (as it has to heat up the tank of hot water).

My boiler fires up every 90 mins or so, when the heating and hot water are off. If is designed to do this (I forget the reason, possibly something about keeping the pump working?). Anyway, there are separate indicators on the boiler for when it fires up for water, heating, and this 90 min routine fire-up.
